Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Waste Collection Ilford in respect of the financial year ending 31 December 2025. It sets out the steps we have taken, and continue to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business operations or our supply chains.

Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy

Waste Collection Ilford is firmly committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings. We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, child labour, servitude, and human trafficking. This policy applies to all individuals working for or on behalf of our company at any level, including employees, agency workers, contractors, consultants, suppliers, and other business partners.

We expect the same high standards from all those we work with. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation that is involved in, or complicit with, modern slavery. Any breach or suspected breach of this policy is treated with the utmost seriousness and may result in termination of contracts or working relationships and, where appropriate, referral to relevant authorities.

Our Business and Supply Chain

Waste Collection Ilford provides commercial and domestic waste collection, recycling, and related environmental services. Our operations rely on a network of suppliers and contractors who provide vehicles, equipment, uniforms, maintenance services, facilities management, and labour. We recognise that certain areas of our supply chain, particularly those involving manual labour, logistics, and outsourced services, may present a higher risk of modern slavery.

We are committed to identifying, assessing, and mitigating these risks through robust due diligence, supplier engagement, and continuous improvement of our internal practices.

Supplier Due Diligence and Audits

To reduce the risk of modern slavery within our supply chains, we have implemented due diligence procedures for existing and prospective suppliers. These procedures include assessing the nature of the supplier’s operations, reviewing their labour practices where relevant, and ensuring contractual requirements around ethical standards and compliance with applicable labour laws.

We reserve the right to conduct supplier audits, which may be announced or unannounced, focusing on working conditions, employment records, recruitment practices, and subcontracting arrangements. Where practical, audits may include site visits and confidential discussions with workers to confirm that wages, working hours, and employment terms are fair and lawful.

If an audit identifies concerns or non-compliance, we will work with the supplier to implement a corrective action plan within agreed timescales. Persistent or serious non-compliance, or a failure to improve, may lead to the suspension or termination of the business relationship.

Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing

We encourage all employees, contractors, and third parties to speak up if they have any concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected to Waste Collection Ilford. Concerns can be raised with line managers, senior management, or via our confidential reporting channels, which allow individuals to report issues without fear of retaliation.

All reports are taken seriously and investigated promptly and impartially. Where necessary, we will involve external advisers or relevant authorities. We are committed to protecting anyone who raises a genuine concern from dismissal, disciplinary action, or any other negative treatment as a result of their disclosure.

Training and Awareness

We provide training to relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, contract management, and site supervision, to help them identify signs of modern slavery and understand how to respond to potential risks or incidents. Awareness materials are made available to staff to reinforce the importance of vigilance and ethical conduct.

Monitoring, Annual Review, and Continuous Improvement

Our approach to combatting modern slavery is subject to ongoing monitoring and review. We track reported concerns, supplier audit findings, and corrective actions to understand where further improvements are required.

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by senior management to ensure it remains effective, up to date, and aligned with legal requirements and recognised best practice. As part of this review, we consider feedback from stakeholders, emerging risks in our industry, and developments in regulatory guidance. Updated versions of the statement are approved at senior level and communicated internally and externally as appropriate.

Waste Collection Ilford remains committed to continuous improvement in preventing modern slavery and ensuring that our business and supply chains operate with respect for human rights, dignity, and fair working conditions.
